The Resurgence of Bedbugs – How to Protect Yourself

Although most people would prefer not to think about it, bedbugs are pests that, for some reason, have seemed to be reappearing in uncomfortably large numbers lately. Bedbugs do not discriminate, either – you will find them in the cleanest of homes or apartments. The problem of bedbugs must be addressed, no matter how unpleasant the subject is.

Bedbugs are blood-sucking insects that can cause humans to develop rashes, usually from scratching the itchy bites; or at worst, they can cause infections. If you believe your home may be infested by bedbugs, you will want to deal with the problem as quickly as possible.

Here are some frequently asked questions about bedbugs, and some answers that may help you deal with the problem if you have it.

How do you know if you have bedbugs? It can sometimes be hard to tell if you have bedbugs, because you will seldom see the actual bugs themselves. Bedbugs are tiny, about the size of a flea, and they do not show themselves during the day. These hungry little creatures prefer to come out at night and feed on their human hosts. This, and the fact that they like to hide in mattresses or bedding, is why they have been given their unpleasant nickname. If you are finding tiny, itchy red marks on your body, especially on your arms or shoulders, this could be a sign of bedbugs. Also, look for tiny dark dots on your beds or walls, which can be bedbug excrement, or even tiny red dots on your mattress, which can be crushed bedbugs. A particularly bad infestation of bedbugs can result in an unpleasant musty smell in the area that they are populating.

Do bedbugs live only on or under mattresses? Bedbugs do like mattress and bedding for obvious reasons – they are great places to hide and conveniently near their food source. However, bedbugs can hide in several other places as well, such as under furniture cushions, in cracks in the walls, under loose carpeting, or in between floorboards.

How does a bedbug infestation start? Bedbugs can be introduced into your home by bringing infested furniture or wood inside. They can also hide on clothing, and thus can be brought in by visitors, or yourself if you have encountered someone who is carrying bedbugs on their clothing.

If you suspect that you have a bedbug infestation, how do you get rid of them? First, if you would rather not try to deal with the problem yourself, you can call a professional. It may be worth it to you, since a professional can usually get rid of the problem immediately. If you would rather save the expense of hiring a professional, you can start by washing all of your bedding in hot water. While the bedding is off the bed, spray all mattresses completely with an insecticide that is specifically for bedbugs. In addition, spray furniture, floors, and any cracks or crevices where you suspect bedbugs may be hiding. Be sure to read warning labels on any insecticides that you use, and follow all safety precautions.

The above article suggests that bedbugs are about the size of a flea, however, they can also be the size of a ladybug, only flat looking. Bedbugs can climb walls, hide in headboards, baseboards and other cracks and crevices around a room. Mattress seams and box springs and slats must be thoroughly treated. A thorough investigation and treatment of the premises is recommended and it is best to call a professional.

Indoor Christmas Decorating
By: Adam Peters

You don't have to spend extravagantly on Christmas decorations. By making your own, you will be putting your personality in your Christmas decorating.

People have all different kinds of ideas about decorating their home for Christmas. Inside your home, Christmas decorations help to give your home that Christmas spirit that people crave during the holiday season. It is an important part of your celebration and can help your home feel more inviting during the holidays. There are many different ways to decorate your home, but making your own Christmas decorations with your family can help make the time together more special and can give a great sense of pride and ownership. There are many different ideas that you can use to help with your interior Christmas decorating desires.

You can make your home into a Christmas masterpiece with some simple interior Christmas decorations.

• One cute idea is to make a display of festive seasonal dolls or bears. You can add a small Christmas tree with little presents. This is a great way to get your children involved. It is important to let them choose the items so that you don't choose one of their security objects, because you don't want to have to take apart your display to rescue one of their favorites.

• Another idea to help give your home that Christmas spirit is to use Christmas ribbon to tie bows all over your home. You can put them anywhere you can tie them, from your stair rails to your curtains.

• Hanging stockings throughout your home is a wonderful way to add that festive feel in your home.

• If you are looking for an activity to do with your children, then you may want to consider taking a white table cloth and painting it with fabric paint. This is a great way to add your children's personality to your room. Just be sure that you explain that painting on the tablecloth is a one time thing.

• Decorate your houseplants with small ornaments to help make them more Christmasy. If you are out of Christmas ornaments, use your Christmas cookie cutters with a little ribbon. You can't go wrong. If it appeals to you, then you can use it.

• Setting Christmas books out on your table is a great decoration and you can gain knowledge. You can even create a game around the trivia that you find inside of the books.

You don't have to spend lots of money on Christmas decorations. You can create your own with just a little effort and a few ideas much like these.

Joke Center

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of her own. They like other people's.

A grandfather is a man & a grandmother is a lady!

Grandparents don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the store and have lots of quarters for us.

When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.

They show us and talk to us about the color of the flowers and also Why we shouldn't step on "cracks."

They don't say, "Hurry up."

Usually grandmothers are fat, but not too fat to tie your shoes.

They wear glasses and funny underwear.

They can take their teeth and gums out.

Grandparents don't have to be smart.

They have to answer questions like "why isn't God married?" and "How come dogs chase cats?".

When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again.

Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television, because they are the only grown ups who like to spend time with us.

They know we should have snack-time before bedtime and they say prayers with us every time, and kiss us even when we've acted bad.

A 6 YEAR OLD WAS ASKED WHERE HIS GRANDMA LIVED. ''OH,'' HE SAID, ''SHE LIVES AT THE AIRPORT, AND WHEN WE WANT HER WE JUST GO GET HER. THEN WHEN WE'RE DONE HAVING HER VISIT, WE TAKE HER BACK TO THE AIRPORT.''

It's funny when they bend over, you hear gas leaks and they blame their dog."
