Are Ant Parading Into Your Home? Stop Them Now.

Preventing ants from coming into your home can be very difficult, especially when you have tried everything you can think of and still have them coming into your home on a daily basis. In the Summer months and rainy periods are the most common time to experience ant invasions. Ants like being able to stay cool and dry indoors. Here are a vew pointers for keeping ants under control.

Always keep your house as clean as possible. This is not always as easy as it seems when you have children constantly dropping crumbs on the floor. Make a daily routine of sweeping and mopping your floors and vacuum your carpets as often as you can. Always wipe all your counter tops after making every meal and please don't keep dirty dishes in the sink for long periods of time. Any food left on the counters and floor is certaintly a meal for ants and the less food you have in sight or smell will help keep them out. Food should be put up neatly or in tight Ziploc bags. If any food is on the counter or lying around, please make sure it is in sealed containers.

If you already have ants in your home it can be a difficult task to get them out. If you are seeing them in your home follow their trail and find out where they are coming from to prevent the rest of the ants from coming in. A bucket of hot soapy water or water with bleach in it can be helpful. Black pepper can be helpful in the ants entry area.

Ant baits and insecticide granules can be helpful outside of your home. Check you local gardening or home center store for these products. Always wash your hands as soon and you are done and read the label on these products. Always keep small children away from these products. Planting peppermint around your home or in your garden also helps. Peppermint naturally repels ants.

Most people like to get rid of ants immediately. Ant sprays can do the job often. Spray where the ants are entering and also at the end of their trail. Using these sprays can quickly resolve many ant problems, but regular use of sprays may be required. Ants are very tough caracters. Lots of times sprays only kill the ants on contact. Once the spray dries the sprays seem to have no effect on certain types of ants.

A good product for indoor use to control ants is call Terro. You can make certain types of ants worse by spraying. For instance, the pharaoh ant. Do not spray for this ant. Another good product for ant control is called Phantom. This is a very good product to eliminate most all types of ants.

Control Snakes In The Garden
By: Marilyn Pokorney

To have a snake or two in the garden is good. Non-poisonoussnakes, such as the common garter snakes, are beneficialcreatures because they eat pest insects, mosquito larvae, slugs, snails, crickets, rats, mice, voles and even othersnakes which may be poisonous.

But if you really don't want snakes in your yard and gardenhere are a few tips to eliminate them without hurting orkilling them.

Keep the lawn neatly cut and clean. Be careful using weedeaters because the sting from the fast moving string cankill them.

Snakes need cover for protection. Don’t leave wood or brushpiles sit in one spot for more than a month.

Keep leaves and other debris picked up.
Don't keep piles of rocks.
Stack firewood on a rack 12" off the ground.
Remove old lumber or junk piles.
Remove their source of food. Keep the insect and rodentpopulation under control.
Place garbage bags in sealed trash cans away from the house.
Repair cracks along the foundation and fill holes aroundpipes. Snakes only need about a ¼ inch crack to get inside.
Sprinkle moth balls around the perimeter of your yard orgarden. But beware that these can be dangerous to pets andchildren.
Sulfur from a garden center is said to keep snakes away.
Don't plant bushes and other plants too close to thefoundation of the house.
Use mulch in the garden beds but not too thickly.
Trim the lowest limbs on shrubs and bushes so they are atleast 12 inches from the ground.
Construct a fence around your garden with heavy galvanizedscreening. Make it three feet wide with quarter-inch mesh.Be sure to bury the bottom of it six inches below the soilsurface.
